Today is Ash Wednesday.
While we are not observing Ash Wednesday at FCC this year, we can still take the opportunity to reflect on its meaning and significance.
“For you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” Genesis 3:19
You may notice today there were some people with a dirty forward, the ashen cross becoming just a smudge on the forehead – a distinct reminder of how temporary everything is.
What do you hear, when you hear the words “Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return?”
Our mortality? The brevity of life?
As you are reminded of all this, may you also remember – you are made of star dust. Wonderfully and fearfully made.
The Quran puts it beautifully – “Surely, we belong to Allah and verily to Allah do we return.” (Quran 2:156)
This Sunday we begin our Lenten sermon series “Ashes.” Join me as we kick things off with “Dying into Life.”
Shalom,
