Dear friends
This Saturday, i will be speaking on an interfaith panel offering my perspectives on the death penalty. We may wonder, if we are not going to commit any capital offense, why should we be bothered about the death penalty?
In September this year, Pope Francis issued a renewed call to “all people of good will to mobilise for the abolition of the death penalty throughout the world.” He said that “capital punishment offers no justice to victims, but rather encourages revenge.”
At the heart of Christianity, is the radical grace that comes from God – and we are called to forgive, just as we have been forgiven.
i hope you can attend the event – either in person at Projector Riverside, or on zoom – to listen, and heed Pope Francis’ call to mobilise for the abolition of the death penalty here in Singapore.
