Dear siblings-in-Christ,
This Sunday, which is Palm Sunday, marks the beginning of Holy Week.
Traditionally, we remember it as Jesus triumphant entry into Jerusalem. But why do we think it is triumphant? In our avoidance to deal with the difficult questions around Jesus’ crucifixion, did we bury it with palm leaves and declarations of victory? In other words, did we miss the point?
What if we, like those who greeted Jesus as Jesus entered Jerusalem, got it wrong? They expected a Messiah that would lead them in overthrowing the Roman oppressors, but that was not the Messiah Jesus turned out to be. What about us? Have we understood Jesus’ teachings enough to figure out what kind of Messiah Jesus is?
Join us as we begin Holy Week this Sunday, and continue that journey with us on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
Note: Maundy Thursday service is not a hybrid service as it is meant to be experienced in person – we are commemorating the Last Supper and we will be conducting the washing of feet. i hope you would join us on Thursday evening for that special service.
Shalom,
miak
