Dear friends,
As we celebrate National Day this weekend, I want to invite all of us Singaporeans and friends who are celebrating with us take a pause to remember the migrant workers in our midst. The daily numbers of Covid-19 cases among them continue in the hundreds every day. i wonder how they are doing, and how their families are doing – worried about each other, and worried about the future.
Leviticus 19:33-34 “When a foreigner resides with you in your land, you must not oppress him. You must treat the foreigner living among you as native-born and love him as yourself, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.”
Even as we celebrate Singapore’s birthday, let us not let nationalism become another idol. We must draw the circle wider as we see each person as part of the family of God – and love them as we have been loved. How does that look like? How do we witness to God’s radical love that includes all people?
Shalom,
