Dear friends,
This week in our sermon arc “The Disciples” based on the book of Acts we find ourselves in Acts 27—where the ship Paul is on is caught in a violent storm, and is headed for disaster.
It’s hard to read this story without seeing the parallels to our world today. Because we, too, are in stormy waters. And it feels like we’re steering straight into a shipwreck.
In Gaza, Palestinians are being starved and bombed, and the world watches on — paralysed, and unable to act. Climate disasters unfold with increasing frequency and intensity, and still, there are those who say climate change is a hoax.
Cruelty is normalised.
Violence is justified.
Hate is defended.
Lies are platformed.
And selfishness is applauded as strength. (Just look at some of the reactions to the Superman movie!)
It’s as if everything is upside down—and we’re all caught in the storm.
But Acts 27 isn’t just about crisis.
It’s about how we choose to act when the storm comes.
And that might be what we need for this moment.
