Dear friends,This Saturday is Pink Dot. This weekend, in many cities in the world, they are celebrating Pride.
Some of us have marched in Pride parades – a large group of us marched in the Pride parade in Taipei in 2018 when Amplify (https://amplifyasia.org/) was held there.
We are often distracted for the gaiety and fanfare of these parades and forgot what they are about. Pride Parades, as well as Pink Dot, are essentially protests. These parades are to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Riots that happened in New York when LGBTQ folks – with transgender women at the forefront – had enough of harassment in the form of police raids – took to the streets.
We may be some distance from that geographically, historically and culturally – but i believe Jesus would be by their side as He had always been with those on the margins.
i have been asked many times – is Jesus really ok with gay? My answer has always been yes. Join us this Sunday as we explore through the early Church their struggles to embrace diversity and move to create a community where everyone belongs. Because all of us are beloved by God.
Shalom,
miak
