Dear friends,
Even though we intended this year to be a year we slow down, the first half of 2024 has been a busy time. I am grateful for the SafeHaven team who stepped up for the IDAHOBIT film screening in May and manning the booth at Pink Dot last Saturday!
As we begin the second half of 2024, i want to invite everyone to keep in mind – “where are we heading to next? In the next 5 years? In the next 20 years?”
If we don’t have a vision where we will be, then we won’t know where we are heading. It feels to me that we have wandered around for a while, and making things up as we go along. (in a good way). We are not limited by the past, or tradition.
I have heard people voicing thoughts about being LGBTQ and ageing. How does family of choice look like?
SOme of us have been asking – how are we going to build community? How are we going to look like in future?
We need to have some idea how community looks like in 5 years, 10 years time
We need to have some idea how to get there
We need to have some boundaries, principles we need to have to help us along the way.
These values are not out of this world – we already have these values embedded in our identity.
We are here to serve and to love, but don’t confuse the hospitality we offer with a hotel / hospital / restaurant.
We are community, and we are relational – but it is not something that one is entitled to. Relationship requires mutuality.
I hope that we can start by examining why do we go to church, what are we looking for, and how are we going to get there.
See you this Sunday!
