Dear FCC family,
The news of the elementary school shooting in the US today and the loss of young lives is truly devastating. It broke my heart, especially when it closely follows a series of shooting incidents in other locations over the past few weeks. Not to mention the continued loss of lives in the war in Ukraine.
Like Miak wrote in his bulletin message last week, all this may “seem like something that is happening on the other side of the planet, and we have little in connection with it – but we are all interconnected. We are all affected as more and more people get drawn into consuming media that perpetuates and reinforces their biases and prejudices, fueling hate and fear.” How do we participate in the healing of the world and be involved in bringing about shalom and God’s kin-dom? Perhaps we can begin by living out our lives as wounded healers — to be the salt and light in the spheres God has called us.
As we strive to be wounded healers, it is also important to rest. Rest is a spiritual practice. Rest is productive. So the pastors will be taking turns to go on leave and rest. Miak will be on leave from 23 May to 1 June, and Pauline will be on leave from 6 to 10 June. We hope you all are taking time to rest and be refreshed too.
This Sunday, we continue with our preaching series, Easter Encounters, with Encountering Faith.
Shalom,
Pauline
