Dear siblings in Christ,
This past week, we saw disturbing reports of overt discrimination towards the lgbtq community in Singapore. A transgender youth faced discrimination at school and was allegedly prevented access to hormone replacement therapy despite having parental consent. A local salad bar had a small rainbow flag displayed at their counter, and an agitated passerby allegedly verbally abused the staff and threw the flag at them, saying, “You are the kind of people who are destroying Singapore! Go to hell!”
This kind of behaviour is abhorrent and unacceptable. As a society, we can do better. We should do better, be better. As a gesture of solidarity and support for the transgender youth, Ashlee, and other transgender youth out there, FCC decided to join in as one of the signatories on the recent statement prepared by Sayoni and TransgenderSG: Statement of Solidarity with Transgender Students in Singapore. We are very proud of the founders and leaders of TransgenderSG. You may not be aware but most of them are our church members. Much remains to be done at this time in history. Each of us are here for a reason. This season of Epiphany is about the beginnings of revelation within our own selves, and in our relationship with God and others. Join us this Sunday as we explore what it truly means to cast down our nets and follow Jesus.
Shalom,
Pauline
