Dear friends,
On Sunday, i spoke about a few things we can get involved in.
1. Mahakaruna Buddhist Society has requested for items to be given to the flood victims in Sri Lanka – Towels, bed sheets, new clothes (not old clothes please!), toothpaste, toothbrushes, soaps. Jimmy has kindly stepped forward to coordinate this (thanks Jimmy!). You can donate cash as well – we would purchase the items needed on your behalf. Please contact him at satorisan84@gmail.com for more information.
2. Next Tuesday evening, we will host an iftar (the break fast meal during Ramadan) before the interfaith talk by Movement Affirming Pluralism. Our friend, Mohammed Imran bin Mohammed Taib, will be giving a brief presentation on Islam and we will be able to ask questions we may not have the opportunity to ask so that we get a better understanding of Islam. Many folks reached out to me, not knowing how to respond and how to speak up when they encounter hate speech against our Muslim siblings because they didn’t know much about Islam and Muslims themselves. We have to start somewhere, and i hope we can start something to build bridges and understanding, instead of sowing seeds of discord. We can make a difference! Because we would be arranging for food, please sign up at https://goo.gl/forms/mAsih8lMr
We need to participate in the peacemaking and healing work – that is what we are called to be as the salt and light of the world. Where there are conflicts, fractures and differences, we need to be the healers and bridge builders. We may be ignorant, and not knowledgeable – so participate as we learn, we discover. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
