The Church is broken –
As broken as the religious community Jesus criticised.
Who are the ones who tie heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them?
Who are the ones shutting the door of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces?
Who are the ones who neglect the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness?
We weep with our siblings in the United Methodist Church
We weep with our siblings in the Roman Catholic Church
We weep at the brokenness of it all.
In our tears, we pray –
For mending,
For the things that are broken to be made whole
For hope,
To know that there is resurrection after death
For love,
That opens our eyes
That opens our ears
That opens our hearts
That binds us all together
